Additional information: Epitope is located within 45 kDa N-terminal domain of GP Ib (Val226-Gly268). VM16d inhibits platelet activation and aggregation induced by low dose thrombin (<0.1 U/ml) and decreases thrombin binding to platelets. VM16d inhibits platelet GP Ib interaction with von Willebrand factor induced by botrocetin, but not ristocetin. VM16d inhibits GP Ib binding with Mac1 (CD11b/CD18) leukocyte integrin. VM16d does not react with platelets from patients with the hereditary deficiency of GP Ib (Bernard-Soulier syndrome). VM16d can be used as capture antibody in sensitive sandwich ELISA (in pair with commercially available antibody AK2 as detection antibody) for the measurement of the extracellular part of GP Ib (glycocalicin) which appeared in plasma as a result of platelet destruction. Measurement of glycocalicin is used for differential diagnostics of different forms of thrombocytopenia.
